Donovan Mitchell stopped to save a car crash victim before saving the Jazz

On his way home from practice in Salt Lake City on Sunday, Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell stopped to assist a woman in distress following a car accident.

Mitchell was among several good samaritans who rushed from their own vehicles after witnessing a two-car crash in downtown Salt Lake City, according to reports. The 22-year-old reportedly called 911 and waited until police arrived on the scene. Nobody was seriously injured, Mitchell told The Salt Lake Tribune on Monday.

A Jazz fan who also stopped to make sure the police were notified snapped a picture of Mitchell waiting for further assistance to arrive, per the Deseret News.

“I was driving by, a lady was falling out of her car, the airbags went off, she was grabbing her chest and I was like, ‘Oh shoot,’” Mitchell told the Tribune when asked about the photo. “Like a natural instinct to find out what happened. ... I was just going out there to make sure she was OK. I don’t want to make it like a big deal.”

Good karma came Mitchell’s way on Monday, when the shooting guard scored 19 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter to ward off a potential Houston Rockets sweep in Salt Lake City. The Jazz survived to see Game 5 in Houston on Wednesday, and more importantly everyone involved in the collision did, too.

“Honestly he seemed super genuine and concerned for them,” Margarita Terry, the woman who spoke to Mitchell at the scene and snapped the photo, told the Deseret News via Instagram. “I can’t imagine very many athletes that would do something like this. I am sure he doesn’t want the credit, but he deserves it.”
