Report: Rod 'He Hate Me' Smart, missing for six days, has been found and is safe
Rod Smart was found and is safe, after he was missing for six days.
Smart, a former Eagles and Panthers running back who famously was known as “He Hate Me” during the XFL’s only season in 2001, was reported missing. He had last been seen on June 12 in South Carolina. On Tuesday, police asked the public for help in finding him.
Then came good news on Tuesday night: The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office said Smart was found and was safe, according to a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Office.

Early Tuesday there was an ominous report: Smart, last seen on June 12 in Indian Land, was missing. Authorities in Lancaster County asked the public for help finding him. Police and his family said they were worried about Smart’s safety. The initial Facebook post by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said it was unusual for Smart to not be in touch with anyone.
The update didn’t give details on where Smart was and why he didn’t contact anyone for almost a week, only that he was found and safe.
Smart gained fame in the XFL when he was with the Las Vegas Outlaws. The XFL allowed players to use nicknames on the back of their jerseys instead of last names, and Smart went with “He Hate Me.” It summed up the irreverent league.
Smart then made it in the NFL, lasting five seasons. He played his first season with the Eagles and his last four with the Panthers, mostly as a kick returner and special teams player.
