Angels RHP Richards, SS Cozart exit with injuries

Angels right-hander Garrett Richards and shortstop Zack Cozart each left Los Angeles' Wednesday game against the Seattle Mariners early due to injuries.

Richards exited his start after two innings and 35 pitches due to left hamstring tightness. He allowed two runs and four hits and struck out two before exiting, with right-hander Noe Ramirez replacing him in the third inning.

Richards, 30, entered the contest with a 4-4 record and 3.26 ERA in 13 starts this season. The early departure marks his seventh consecutive winless outing.

He was limited to just 12 starts over the past two seasons due to elbow and biceps injuries in his pitching arm.

Cozart departed after three innings with a left shoulder strain, shortly after he made a diving play to field a single in the bottom of the third. Nolan Fontana pinch-hit for Cozart, who walked in his only plate appearance, in the top of the fourth and replaced him at shortstop for the rest of the game.

Cozart, 32, is batting .219 with five home runs and 18 RBIs in his first year with the Angels. He made his first career All-Star appearance last season in his seventh year with the Cincinnati Reds, finishing the campaign with a .297 average, 24 home runs and 63 RBIs.

The Mariners went on to beat the Angels 8-6 on Wednesday.
