Bears not ruling out possible Mitchell Trubisky return in 2021

Quarterback conversation has dominated the Chicago Bears offseason, which isn’t a surprise given the team is desperately in need of a franchise quarterback.

When general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy met with the media on Tuesday, one of the hot topics was the quarterback situation.

While Pace couldn’t and wouldn’t comment on Chicago’s offseason moves — which have reportedly included interest in trading for the likes of Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson and Carson Wentz, to name a few — he did leave the door open for a potential Mitchell Trubisky return.

When asked asked about the possibility of Trubisky re-signing with the Bears, Pace said that “everything is on the table” as far as the quarterback situation is concerned.

“And, honestly, that includes players on our current roster, that includes free agency, trade, the draft and a combination of all those,” he said. “We have a plan in place, and now it’s about executing that plan.”

The Bears don’t have the best options at quarterback right now. Nick Foles is the only quarterback under contract in 2021, the free agent market isn’t the most attractive and Chicago has the 20th overall pick, which isn’t going to land them a top-tier prospect in the NFL draft, barring a trade. And Trubisky is still an option — an unlikely one, but an option nonetheless.

Still, that’s not going to stop the Bears from exploring all avenues, including the trade market. Chicago has been rumored to be showing interest in Watson and Wilson, two quarterbacks that would be game-changers for this franchise.

“We’re going to explore every one of those,” Pace said. “You know we’ll be thorough with that. It’s just doing our due diligence on all different things and exploring every avenue to improve our team and improve our roster, and it’s no different with that.”
