Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that it is currently working on three new maps for Overwatch’s Quick Play and Competitive modes, and that they are looking “likely for a release this year.”

Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan revealed in a post on the Battle.net forums that the maps are already past the initial playtesting phase, and that they will be “standard” maps (maps for Quick Play and Competitive play).

The last standard map to be released in the pool was Oasis, which was added in January 2017.

Kaplan also said that the team is also working on three non-standard maps. They are likely for Arcade mode or event-based modes, such as the recently released Overwatch: Uprising.

He also noted that the team also has “a few other experiments going on.” Hopefully to do with Overwatch League.

In related competitive Overwatch news, the teams for the upcoming Overwatch APEX Season 3 tournament have been confirmed. The tournament starts on April 28 and features teams from South Korea, one team from Europe, and one team from North America. No final date has been announced, but Season 2 ran over the course of three months.
