The digital card game space is about to get more crowded. Gwent, the Witcher spinoff CCG from CD Projekt, has officially entered open beta.

Originally a minigame within The Witcher series, it grew in popularity enough for CD Projekt to develop it as its own standalone product. Just like its digital card game counterparts, the full version of the game is free-to-play.

Gwent is entering a space dominated by Blizzard’s Hearthstone, which launched in 2014 and has been the de facto CCG of choice for esports players. However, some prominent figures within the scene have expressed their displeasure with the direction Blizzard is taking the game, causing them to look for other options. That has led to players like Adrian “Lifecoach” Koy looking for greener pastures – in his case, Gwent.

The public beta of Gwent is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more on how its competitive scene will develop, stay right here on Yahoo Esports.
