Conor McGregor signs deal for Dustin Poirier rematch at UFC 257

The Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier rematch is on.

UFC president Dana White confirmed to Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole on Thursday that McGregor has signed the deal to fight Poirier at UFC 257, which will happen on Jan. 23. Poirier reportedly signed his side of the bout agreement last week.

McGregor, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion, will make his return to the Octagon just over a year since he last fought. He defeated Donald Cerrone with a 40-second TKO in January 2020, and since then had yet another public retirement that obviously didn’t stick. His bout with Poirier will be McGregor’s second MMA fight since late 2016.

Poirier has fought more recently than McGregor, defeating Dan Hooker in June 2020. He’s 5-1 in his last six matches and his last loss was to Khabib Nurmagomedov in September 2019. In fact, McGregor’s last loss was also to Khabib.

The fight between McGregor and Poirier is a rematch of their 2014 fight when McGregor defeated Poirier at UFC 178 with a first-round TKO.

According to ESPN, McGregor and Poirier will fight at 155 pounds. The location of the fight has not been announced, but it’s expected to be at the UFC’s Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. BetMGM currently has McGregor as a -200 favorite with Poirier coming in at +200.
