Danica Patrick: 'I don’t know what’s going to happen next but I’m open to anything'

It’s no secret that 2017 has been a struggle for Danica Patrick.

Her scheduled sponsor, Nature’s Bakery, became embroiled in a legal dispute with her Stewart-Haas Racing team before the season even began and the kerfuffle meant her car was suddenly in need of funding.

Once the racing got started, Patrick hasn’t had much success. She finished the regular season 28th in the points standings. If she doesn’t improve her position over the final 10 races of the year it will tie her worst season at NASCAR’s top level.

And Patrick’s contract with SHR is up at the end of the season. She told Yahoo Sports’ Tim Hines in the video above that she’s not sure what the future holds. Patrick, who has said previously that she wants to be competitive if she keeps racing, is well set up for a post-racing career. She’s launching a wine label next spring and her fitness clothing line was her sponsor for Saturday night’s race at Richmond.

When will that post-racing career arrive? We’ll have a better idea of the timeline in the coming months.
