Jamal Murray ‘out for the foreseeable future’ with ankle injury

The Nuggets expect Jamal Murray to be sidelined for the “foreseeable future” after going down with an ankle injury on Wednesday.

After going down with a scary ankle injury on Wednesday night, the Denver Nuggets expect to be without guard Jamal Murray for the “foreseeable future.”

Murray did not travel with the team to San Francisco for the Nuggets’ 134-131 overtime win against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, instead opting to remain in Denver for treatment. Tests on Murray’s ankle, however, came back clean.

“The X-rays were negative,” coach Michael Malone said Thursday, via the Denver Post. “He’ll be out for the foreseeable future, obviously.

“We kept some of those guys home instead of having them travel. Both Jamal, Gary [Harris] and Paul [Millsap], just trying to get them back as quickly as possible. So, right now, no real update other than that we don’t expect him back for a little bit.”

Harris missed his second straight game with an adductor strain. Millsap has now missed five games with a left knee contusion.

Murray went down late in the first half of their 100-86 win against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center after he landed awkwardly on Terry Rozier’s foot while trying to contest a jump shot. He remained on the floor for several minutes in pain before teammates helped him up and to the tunnel.

Murray did not return, finishing the night with five points, one rebound and one assist in 15 minutes. The 22-year-old has averaged 17.9 points, 4.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game this season in Denver, his fourth in the league.

Monte Morris got the start in Murray’s place on Thursday at the Chase Center. The Nuggets, after falling into an early 19-point hole, rallied back in the fourth quarter to force overtime behind a 31-point night from Will Barton, and then held on in the extra period to grab their third straight win. Nikola Jokic finished with a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, and Michael Porter Jr. added 18 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
