Dota 2 Asia Championships 2017 venue details announced

The main event venue for the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2017 has been revealed.

The event will be hosted April 1-4 at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China. According to the announcement, the venue can accommodate up to 15,000 spectators (other pages cite a capacity of 18,000).

The following teams will be competing at the main event:

  • Wings Gaming (Invited)

  • OG (Invited)

  • Newbee (Invited)

  • Invictus Gaming (Asia Qualifier Winner)

  • VGJ (Asia Qualifier Winner)

  • LGD.Forever Young (Asia Qualifier Winner)

  • IG.Vitality (Asia Qualifier Winner)

  • Team NP (Americas Qualifier Winner)

  • Team Faceless (SEA Qualifier Winner)

  • Team Liquid (Europe Qualifier Winner)

  • Team Empire (CIS Qualifier Winner)

The event marks the second iteration of the Dota 2 Asia Championships. The first event was hosted in February 2015, with a prize pool of over $3 million. Evil Geniuses took home first place at the event, with Vici Gaming finishing in second place and Team Secret in third.

Tickets are not yet being sold to DAC 2017. Interestingly, the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center will also serve as the venue for the League of Legends World Championships semi-finals on October 28-29 this year. It was also the venue to host the League of Legends Mid-Seasonal Invitational 2016.

The Shanghai Oriental Sports Center was completed in 2011 after three years of construction. In addition to an arena, it contains an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. It regularly hosts traditional sporting events including those for arena football, speed skating, basketball, mixed martial arts, figure skating and swimming.
