Valve has addressed more questions surrounding the upcoming roster lock periods for the competitive Dota 2 scene. As detailed on the official Dota 2 web page, the current drop period ends on December 27 at midnight PT.

After that time, teams will not be able to remove players from their roster. However, players can still be added, up to a maximum of five, including the people on the roster.

Rosters will be locked from January 9 at midnight PT and will remain so until after the Spring Major (aka the Kiev Major 2017) which takes place April 20-23, 2017.

If a team changes the roster after the lock period, they will no longer be eligible to receive a direct invitation to the Major or Regional Qualifiers. However, the team will still be able to register and play in the Open Qualifiers.

Teams that have registered their roster for the last season will have to confirm their participation before the drop period ends. Failure to do so will see that team’s players dropped automatically. Once a player is locked to a team they cannot leave the roster, nor can a team kick the player.

Substitute players do not have to be registered during the roster lock period. Teams who qualify for a Major can issue an invitation to a substitute player who is not already participating, although the invitation can only be sent after the qualifiers are finished.

In related news, Valve recently released patch 7.00 for Dota 2. The update introduces a number of sweeping changes, including a brand new hero, HUD, pre-game stage, talent trees and map changes, and other tweaks including graphical remodels and community-authored bots.

The next upcoming Dota 2 major is the Kiev Major 2017, scheduled to take place April 20-23 in Kiev, Ukraine.
