Team SoloMid has announced that Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng has returned to its League of Legends roster after taking the 2017 Spring Split away.

While he will not be participating in the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational, Doublelift will be the sixth man on the TSM roster, sharing the AD carry slot with Jason “WildTurtle” Tran. According to a statement from TSM, the pair “will be expected to focus on different playstyles and will be fielded according to the strategy the team plans to use. We hope that the arrangement will increase the strategic depth of the team and assist both players in dealing with burnout.”

Doublelift said of his return, “I’m really excited to be playing again on TSM, and feel reinvigorated from this break. After last season’s Worlds, I was overwhelmed by the weight of my massive underperformance when it mattered most. Coming back into LCS, my only priority is to win worlds and nothing else. It’s a huge honor to be able to play with everyone on TSM and I will make the most of it. This is the hungriest that I’ve ever been to succeed, and soon I will prove it to my teammates, my fans, and the world.”

After TSM failed to get out of the group stages at the 2016 World Championship, Doublelift stepped away from the roster to stream and take a break from the competitive scene. That is, until he joined up with Team Liquid. The organization was struggling to climb out of last place in the NA LCS and TSM loaned Doublelift to TL for the final weeks of the split. Despite the fact that he was unable to save Liquid from heading to the promotion tournament, Doublelift did help them retain their spot in the league by winning in the 2017 Summer Promotion Tournament.

When Doublelift left TSM after Worlds, the organization stated that he would “be required to compete for the starting position” upon his return.
