DreamHack Austin has been upgraded to a Premier Event for Capcom Pro Tour 2017, the organizer has announced.

Last year, DreamHack Austin debuted on the CPT as a Ranking Event. This marks the first time a North American DreamHack will be a Premier Event.

CEO founder Alex Jebailey is also the fighting game organizer for DreamHack, leading to the possibility he could run two CPT Premier Events in the same year.

Premier Events hold much more weight than Ranking Events on the CPT. In years past, winners of Premier Events automatically qualified for Capcom Cup and players who place are awarded more points than Ranking Events. Premier Events also have a significant prize pool boost, with $15,000 being added to the pot.

DreamHack joins Combo Breaker as CPT events earning a promotion to Premier status, and is the fourth confirmed Premier Event in North America, which includes Final Round and NorCal Regionals. A list of European events has also been revealed, including a new Premier Event in Paris, France.

Yesterday, Capcom provided an update on forthcoming CPT 2017 news. Players and fans can expect a full reveal on Monday, February 27.

No formal announcements have been made about CPT and Capcom Cup 2017’s format, but last year Capcom did say it was thinking about removing auto-qualifying for Capcom Cup.

In related news, it will be a busy year for Street Fighter V as ELeague announced a 32-player $250,000 invitational that will be broadcast on TBS.
