At gamescom 2016 ESL will host the first ever International Overwatch tournament to boast a six-figure prize pool. The tournament will feature 8 teams split between NA and EU.

Open qualifiers for the “Overwatch Atlantic Showdown” will begin on June 27th. A regional qualifier will follow, as well as a last chance tournament to solidify the eight that will compete at gamescom.

The group stage of the tournament will begin at gamescom on Saturday August 20th, with the finals taking place the following day.

Teams likely to be in attendance include Cloud9, REUNITED, EnVyUs, Luminosity, Rogue, Creation esports, and Team Liquid. However given that the main event is two months away, there is a strong chance that some of the current top teams may disband, endure roster changes, or find themselves on a losing streak before the event giving room for new threatening competitors to surface.

Gamescom will take place in Cologne, Germany. The expo is considered to currently be Europe’s largest electronic trade-fair averaging over 300,000 attendees.
