Esports Arena plans Las Vegas strip venue for 2018
The people behind Esports Arena have announced an expansion into their fourth location.
As part of a joint venture with Allied Esports and MGM Grand International, a new multi-level Esports Arena is being built at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV with a target opening window of early 2018.
According to a press release, the venue will take up the 30,000-foot space currently occupied by one of the Luxor’s nightclubs. The goal is to develop the venue to include a competition stage, LED video wall, and high-end television production studios.
The Esports Arena opened its first location in Santa Ana, CA, where it hosts weekly esports competitions. It is mainly known for hosting the Wednesday Night Fights and Mega Smash Monday weeklies. It has also hosted a number of high-profile Smash 4 tournaments in conjunction with 2GGaming (including the $100,000 2GG Championship Series) and most recently served as one of the locations for the Hearthstone Americas Winter Championship. The Esports Arena also recently partnered with ECS to broadcast the online portion of ECS Season 3 for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Esports Arena is currently constructing a new venue in Oakland, CA that’s set to open later this year. It is also putting together a mobile esports venue called ESA Drive that’s set to launch this summer.
Las Vegas is no stranger to esports. DreamHack Masters Las Vegas was hosted at the MGM Grand, and the upcoming EVO 2017 tournament will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. However, the future Esports Arena is being heralded as the first permanent and dedicated esports space on the Las Vegas strip. Millennial Esports previously announced plans to open its own venue called thE Arena, which will be located off the strip in downtown Las Vegas.
