Fantasy Football: Deep sleepers to boost your roster

We're exactly a week away from the start of the NFL regular season and the excitement around the new year is palpable.

Some fantasy football leagues have completed their drafts already and GMs are fine-tuning their squads ahead of kickoff next Thursday. But for those who have yet to draft their teams, we have some last-minute options you should consider adding for some extra punch at the bottom of your lineup.

Here are some deep sleeper candidates you should look to pick up as you get ready for fantasy football season.

Nico Collins, WR, Houston Texans

Collins is flying under the radar at the moment because GMs are afraid to draft any Houston Texans players other than Brandin Cooks. But with a depleted receiving corps, Collins could be worth a flyer after flashing some potential last season as a rookie.

The 23-year-old caught 33 passes for 446 yards and one touchdown last season with limited targets, averaging 3.6 fantasy points per game. All signs point to him playing a bigger role in the Texans' offence this season.

Second-year QB Davis Mills should take a step forward this season and produce more consistently, and should be able to get the ball to Collins downfield week in, week out.

Khalil Herbert, RB, Chicago Bears

When first-string running back David Montgomery missed some time due to injury last season, Herbert picked up the workload and did a formidable job in the star's absence.

Through Weeks 5 to 8, Herbert carried the ball 78 times for 344 yards and added 44 yards through the air on 10 catches. If Montgomery runs into injury troubles once again, or struggles in the final year of his current deal with the Bears, Herbert is an easy plug-and-play option for both Chicago and fantasy GMs.

The 24-year-old is a no-brainer if you're looking for some sneaky value at the end of the draft.

Jalen Tolbert, WR, Dallas Cowboys

With James Washington set to miss time after hurting his foot in practice, Jalen Tolbert will be counted on as the second receiving option in the Cowboys' offence behind star Ceedee Lamb.

Taken with the 88th-overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Tolbert has the tools to make plays at the pro level after showing off the ability to create separation as a standout at South Alabama. As a senior last season, the 23-year-old caught 82 passes for 1,474 yards and eight touchdowns.

With a solid, proven quarterback in Dak Prescott, Tolbert should see plenty of the ball and will surely be put in the right situations to make an impact in a relatively shallow Cowboys receiving corps.
