How far will Michigan State, Oregon fall in USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll?

Blowouts in marquee games in the Big Ten and Pac-12 will jostle the top of this week's USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, likely sending two teams formerly in the College Football Playoff out of the top 10.

Ohio State's 56-7 win against Michigan State ends any chance the Spartans had of winning the Big Ten and gives the Buckeyes a strong case for rising to No. 2 in this week's poll, which will be released around noon ET on Sunday.

Well out of hand as early as the first quarter, the brutal loss will send Michigan State tumbling from No. 8 into the teens as voters reconsider the Spartans' résumé and overall strength of schedule.

Utah handed Oregon a 38-7 defeat, ending weeks of debate over the Ducks' place in the playoff race. That's good news for Ohio State, which lost to Oregon in non-conference play, and great news for Cincinnati, which can now dream of becoming the first Group of Five team to reach the semifinals.

Like the Spartans, the Ducks are likely to fall from No. 5 out of the top 10 entirely.

Here's how the top of the Coaches Poll should look with two Saturdays to go in the regular season:

1. Georgia (11-0)

Charleston Southern never stood a chance. Neither does Georgia Tech, which is limping into next Saturday's rivalry game after a 55-0 loss to Notre Dame. The Bulldogs' win against the Football Championship Subdivision opponent included a 1-yard touchdown run from defensive tackle Jordan Davis, giving him another highlight to add to his Heisman Trophy reel.

2. Alabama (10-1)

The idea that Ohio State could leap ahead of Alabama and into the second spot definitely holds water, since it's hard not to be wildly impressed by the Buckeyes' destruction of Michigan State. But it's not like the Crimson Tide beat a pushover: Arkansas was No. 22 in last week's poll and may stick in the Top 25 after only losing by a touchdown.

3. Ohio State (10-1)

Ohio State Buckeyes running back Miyan Williams (28) runs the ball against Michigan State Spartans safety Angelo Grose (15) in the first half at Ohio Stadium.

All three star receivers went over 100 yards on the day: Chris Olave went for 140 and two scores, Garrett Wilson went for 126 and a pair, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a team-high 10 catches for 105 yards. The Buckeyes scored touchdowns on their first five possessions for the second week in a row, which is remarkable. Beating what was the No. 8 team in the land by 49 points is going to lift OSU one spot to No. 3.

4. Cincinnati (11-0)

Those waiting for a Cincinnati breakthrough have to be satisfied with a 48-14 win against SMU. Quarterback Desmond Ridder had a touchdown as a passer, runner and receiver as the Bearcats unloaded some frustration on the third-best team in the American. That OSU leaps the Bearcats is entirely a reflection of the Buckeyes' dominance; besides, look for Cincinnati to come in at No. 4 in this week's playoff rankings, which will be a historic moment for the program and for all of college football.

5. Notre Dame (10-1)

The Irish led Georgia Tech 45-0 at halftime and could've picked the final score. After an up-and-down September and October, this team is peaking at the right time: Notre Dame's margin of victory against the Yellow Jackets was the program's most since beating Rutgers 62-0 on Nov. 23, 1996.

6. Michigan (10-1)

Michigan may inch closer to Notre Dame in the poll but won't move to No. 5. Like the Irish, the Wolverines rolled past an inferior opponent, beating Maryland 59-18 to head into the date with Ohio State on a high note. One reason among several to like the Wolverines' chances has been the recent play of quarterback Cade McNamara, who has seven touchdowns against one interception in his last three games. (Here is where you remember that Ohio State's C.J. Stroud went for six touchdowns in under three quarters against the Spartans.)

7. Oklahoma State (10-1)

This defense continues to roll, holding Texas Tech to 108 yards and 10 first downs in a 23-0 win one week after the Red Raiders went for 41 points and 529 yards in beating Iowa State. Now 10-1, the Cowboys will get Oklahoma on Saturday and perhaps again a week later depending on the result of Bedlam and various tiebreakers with Baylor.

8. Oklahoma (10-1)

Caleb Williams has gone from a Heisman dark horse to a bit of a concern for Oklahoma, after following his disappointing numbers in last week's loss to Baylor with 8 completions in 18 attempts for 87 yards in Saturday's 28-21 win against Iowa State. Strangely, the state of the OU offense is the biggest concern heading into the game against the Cowboys.

9. Ole Miss (9-2)

One day after announcing that this will be his last season at Ole Miss, quarterback Matt Corral completed 27 of 36 throws for 326 yards and two touchdowns as the Rebels beat Vanderbilt 31-17. That was Corral's first game with multiple passing touchdowns since tossing a pair against Tennessee on Oct. 16.

10. Baylor (8-2)

No. 13 last week after upsetting the Sooners, Baylor will deserve to crack the top 10 after a nice win on the road against Kansas State, the Wildcats' first loss in over a month. While the Bears come in ahead of Oklahoma in the playoff rankings, that won't be matched by the Coaches Poll.
