Former Riot Games dev joins Wavedash Games to work on Smash-inspired title

Update 3:40PM PST: Wavedash Games has shared a statement with Yahoo Esports in regards to the announcement. It reads:

Riot Games’ former live gameplay game designer Wesley Ruttle has announced he has parted ways with the company. After working for the League of Legends developer for over four years, Ruttle is moving on to take up a role at Wavedash Games.

The move makes sense, given Ruttle’s appreciation of the Super Smash Bros. Melee competitive scene, frequently posting about it. Developer Wavedash Games is currently working on a self-dubbed “esports-ready, genre-defining platform fighter.”

Interestingly, the studio’s approach to making the game is described as community-driven, although the extent of this method has not been detailed.

Wavedash Games was founded by Jason Rice and Matt Fairchild, who are self-described Smash fans. The developer’s first game will be free-to-play and fast-paced, and designed with competitive play in mind.
