G2 Esports has announced they will start Spanish top laner Rosendo “Send0o” Fuentes and French jungler Jean-Victor “loulex” Burgevin for their League of Legends team in the first week of EU LCS. Their usual starting top and jungle duo, Ki “Expect” Daehan and Kim “Trick” Gangyun will take the extra time to rest at home in South Korea.

“We’ve taken this decision not lightly at all,” G2 Esports owner and CEO Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago said in a short video the team posted to Twitter. “We put a lot of effort and thought process into it. The main reason behind this decision are the players haven’t been able to see their families ever since the beginning of the season. Furthermore, some of them have severe wrist problems, and our physicists[sic] have suggested that they spend some days off the game, which is going to help them a lot.”

Send0o previously played for G2’s Spanish team, G2 Vodafone, in the Liga de Videojuegos Profesional. loulex most recently played in the European Challenger Series for FC Schalke 04 Esports, but has jungled for multiple European LCS teams in the past, including H2K-Gaming in 2015 when they attended the World Championship.

The long LCS season provides very little time for players on top teams to take breaks, and for foreign players, even less time to visit family. After G2’s recent second place finish at MSI, they only have a short break before the new EU LCS season begins in June.

G2 Esports’ announcement assured fans that these substitutions are only temporary until the players return from their visit to South Korea.
