The early days of League of Legends esports were weird. On a daily basis, teams formed and fell apart, players scattering to the winds. Too often, team names were lost in the ether. While more “culturally acceptable” names like Counter Logic Gaming and Fnatic remained, the truly great names were cast aside, never to be heard from again.

Until, that is, your intrepid Yahoo Esports League of Legends writer dragged one of them from the annals of history. Behold APictureOfAGoose, the greatest team name in League of Legends esports history.

Their logo? Um, what do you think? But this wasn’t just any goose: The team’s official image was a goose with a jaunty little top hat and a bow tie. I love this goose. He may be the greatest goose.

APictureOfAGoose wasn’t just some random team full of nobodies, either. Formed in 2011, they played at IPL 3, getting knocked out by CLG. They introduced the world to LCS kills king Zachary “mancloud” Allan Hoschar. Current CLG jungler Jake “Xmithie” Puchero got his start there. Fellow great esports name-haver An “Balls” Le made his debut under the APOAG banner.

If they hadn’t been eventually picked up by now-defunct esports organization mTw, we could still have APictureOfAGoose in the scene. But perhaps some things are just too beautiful to exist.
