Blizzard’s Heroes of the Dorm 2017 league has drawn to a close, with the University of Texas – Arlington’s team UTA HOTD taking first place over Louisiana State University’s team Pick Rick in the grand final.

The two teams faced off in a 3-0 series of games. UT Arlington’s winning team are rewarded with tuition for up to three years for their victory, a prize worth up to $75,000 in total. The top four team placements are as follows:

  • 1st. University of Texas – Arlington

  • 2nd. Louisiana State University

  • 3rd-4th. University of California – Irvine / University of Kentucky

All teams in the top four will each receive a custom built PC gaming system worth approximately $1,000 for each player.

UTA HOTD did not drop a single game throughout the entire tournament. The team had made it to the Heroes of the Dorm finals in 2016, where they were beaten by Arizona State University 3-0. The team is made up of players Eugene “Yuuj” Tseng, Richard “Kladeous” Tran, Yusuf “Kure” Sunka, Toby “EToby” Park, Kevin “EKevin” Park, and Tony “Lifexshort” Lam.

The finals were live streamed via Facebook. Heroes of the Dorm was previously broadcast via a partnership with ESPN in 2015 and 2016, but Blizzard opted to stream with Facebook Live this year. We interviewed college esports lead Adam Rosen on why they’ve opted to change streaming platforms this year.
