Blizzard recently revealed an overhaul for Heroes of the Storm, bringing the game to version 2.0. Game director Alan Dabiri revealed to Yahoo Esports in an interview that Blizzard is exploring the idea of having a regular rotation of Battleground maps for both competitive play in the Heroes of the Storm Global Championship and in regular play.

“When new players come into this game, there’s a lot of stuff there… moving forward, we realize that as we add more and more Battlegrounds that keeping all of this in your head could become a bit of a burden,” Dabiri said.

“So we’re talking about making like, almost a rotation. Just like how you might have hero rotation for a new user… we might do a map pool that’s per season. And that way for a given season, you only have a fix number of things that you need to keep in your head and worry about. And then with the next season we roll out a new map pool. And we can tie that to the competitive side with the HGC, where HGC might just use that season’s map pool as well.”

In addition to a slew of new content, update 2.0 will change the game’s player progression system.

Dabiri explained that when players log in to HOTS 2.0 for the first time they will be rewarded with some Loot Chests depending on what player level they previously achieved. The number of Loot Chests rewarded will scale with the player’s previous level and include Rare and Epic Loot Chests.

Unfortunately, players who have hit the maximum, level 20, will not be rewarded for any extra time accrued beyond the cap.

Heroes of the Storm update 2.0 is slated for release in late April. The update brings with it a lot of changes including a new hero, currency, play progression system, and emojis. For more information, check out the details in our round-up.
