Kiev Major 2017 results, OG wins first place

Dota 2 tournament Kiev Major 2017 has concluded, and OG has finished in first place after beating Virtus.pro in a 3-2 series of games.

For their win, OG take home the $1 million prize, while Virtus.pro walks away with $500,000 for second place. The back-and-forth series begun with OG taking the first game, VP taking games 2 and 3, and then OG coming back to clinch games four and five.

The full results list is as follows:

  • 1st. OG ($1,000,000)

  • 2nd. Virtus.pro ($500,000)

  • 3rd-4th. Evil Geniuses, Invictus Gaming ($250,000)

  • 5th-8th. SG e-sports, VG.J, Team Faceless, Team Liquid,

  • 9th-16th. Team Secret, Thunderbirds, Team Random, TnC Gaming, iG Vitality, Digital Chaos, Newbee, mousesports ($62,500)

The tournament was host of several notable moments. Relatively unknown team SG e-sports caused a huge upset when they knocked Team Secret out from the tournament in a 2-1 series of games. Virtus.pro 2-0’d the Chinese powerhouse Invictus Gaming in the semifinals, while Team Liquid unexpectedly took out Newbee during the round of 16.

The Kiev Major main event took place on April 27-30 at the National Palace of Arts Ukraine. It was the second major tournament in the 2016-2017 competitive Dota 2 season, following on from the Boston Major 2016.
