League of Legends has introduced a new mage, the earth-powered Taliyah, to its vast roster of Champions. The announcement comes roughly a week after Riot Games teased the addition of a new character through a lore post.

Taliyah is described as a control mage that can make life difficult for any opponent in her lane. Her abilities can close off entire lane sections while pushing her opponents towards devastating traps. She can reach opponents quickly by riding the walls with her Rock Surfing passive.

Her other abilities include:

  • [Q] Threaded Volley: This allows Taliyah to raze the ground for five stone projectiles to hurl at her opponents. Any ground farmed with this move will become worked, disallowing multiple uses of this move in the same area.

  • [W] Seismic Shove: Taliyah will target an area and violently raise the ground there, damaging any opponents caught in the blast. If cast twice before the first eruption, Taliyah can use this move to hurl enemies in any direction, even over walls.

  • [E] Unraveled Earth: Taliyah will scatter explosive boulders before her, which will act as land mines and blow up any enemies that walk over them. Any untouched boulders will eventually explode on their own.

  • [R] Weaver’s Wall: This allows Taliyah to raise a rock wall either in front of her or as she rides it herself. This is handy in skirmishes or to block off lane sections, forcing opposing teams to move elsewhere.

Taliyah’s character page on the League of Legends website discusses her synergy possibilities with Lucian, Lee Sin, and Poppy, among others. It also goes into how she can take advantage of her abilities to catch up to fleeing enemies or hold her own in a team fight. There is no specific release date yet, but look for her to hit the League of Legends roster in the next few weeks.
