LoL Worlds 2017 to be held in China, MSI in Brazil

Riot Games has announced the locations of the two biggest international League of Legends tournaments of the year the 2017 League of Legends World Championship will be held in China, while the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational will be held in Brazil.

Starting April 28, MSI will feature a play-in stage at the CBLoL studio São Paulo before moving on to Rio Arena in Rio De Janeiro for the remainder of the tournament. The finals will take place on May 21.

The World Championship will take place across four cities, starting in Wuhan for the play-in and group stages, then Guangzhou for the quarterfinals, Shanghai for the semis, and Beijing for the finals. The finals will take place in the Beijing National Stadium (also known as the Bird’s Nest), which was built for the 2008 Olympic Games. The event starts on September 23, with the finals concluding November 4.

MSI will be the first Riot international event in Brazil, while Worlds marks Riot’s return to China after the 2016 Mid-Season Invitational.

2017 will feature a new play-in stage, in which eight teams from the Wild Card regions and the third seeds from China, North America, Europe, and the LMS will play a preliminary playoff with four advancing to the group stages.

The other twelve teams at the main event will consist of three teams from Korea and the top two seeds from China, NA, EU, and the LMS. Seeding will be based on results from past international tournaments.
