Major Chinese e-commerce site JingDong buys LPL team QG Reapers and LSPL team Now Or Never

One of the two largest Chinese e-commerce sites, JingDong, has entered the League of Legends esports scene by purchasing LPL team QG Reapers and LSPL team Now Or Never, according to weibo.

JingDong, previously known as 360buy.com, is a major digital retailer based in Beijing. They are a member of Fortune 500 Global and a competitor of Alibaba’s Tmall. JingDong reported 2017 Quarter 1 net revenue of $11.1 billion US dollars.

According to the weibo announcement, JD have had modest success with women’s teams in LoL and Overwatch, but plan to expand more into LoL via their “three year plan.” They have rebranded QG Reapers to JingDong Gaming. JD have also purchased LSPL team Now Or Never, who will now be known as JDM, or Joy Dream.

QG Reapers placed third in Group B of the LPL, but lost in the first round of Playoffs to I May. QG team captain, Kim “Doinb” Taesang, received the MVP for the regular season.

JingDong, according to the post, have further plans for esports. These plans include education planning and creating a JingDong tournament brand to organize international esports competitions.
