Even giant robots want in on the esports action.

On Tuesday, developer Piranha Games unveiled the Mechwarrior Online World Championships, a six-month tournament kicking off in May and culminating on Dec. 3 at the first annual “Mech Con” in Vancouver.

Players will need to form eight-man (robot?) teams to compete in the $100,000 tournament, a sum the developers hope to increase through the sale of an in-game “Tournament Supporter” content pack. According to the rules, the winning team will net $60,000, though that money will go directly to the team captain, who will be solely responsible for doling that out to the other players. So, uh, make sure you trust your captain, eh?

The free-to-play game, which launched in 2012, currently boasts over 350 Mechs and nearly 20 maps. The details are still coming together, but players interested in signing up can head over to the official site.

Ben Silverman played the original Mechwarrior back in like 1952 or something. He’s on Twitter trying to remember things @ben_silverman.
