MLG Columbus had record 1.6M concurrent viewers at peak

The MLG CS:GO Columbus Major apparently gave as much as it received two weeks ago.

The first major on North American that featured 16 of the world’s best teams competing for a piece of the newly boosted $1million prize pool also shattered viewership records, Activision-Blizzard announced Tuesday.

Viewers consumed over 45 million hours of live broadcast through live stream, mobile, and the in-game client over the duration of the event, according to the parent company. At its peak, the event boasted 1.6 million concurrent viewers, surpassing ESL One Cologne 2015’s record of 1.3 million concurrents during 31 million hours of video content consumed.

Homefield advantage proved just that with two NA teams, Team Liquid and Counter Logic Gaming, achieving a top eight placement and an automatic invitation to the next major. Luminosity Gaming, a brazilian team, trounced the international competition going home with the trophy.

The Columbus Major, which drew a sold-out crowd of 10,000 fans in Ohio, was the eighth CS:GO major to date and the first one produced by MLG.
