The owners of the TCL Chinese Theatre have announced plans to launch an “immersive esports theater” in the Chinese 6 Theatre complex. The news was announced at the opening day of CinemaCon (via Variety), where it was revealed that the facility will open in late summer.

The venue will allegedly function both as a movie theater and also serve as the “first immersive spectator theater hosting competitive esports tournaments.” It is not detailed how the immersion will work with esports events, but it’s worth noting that the seats in the theatre can be programmed to move in sync with the on-screen action. Other features include air/water blasts, leg/neck ticklers, fog, seat/back pokers, and seat rumblers.

The facility will be the first among a plan for a network of tournament theaters that expand “beyond Hollywood.”

It appears that 2017 is the year for the number of esports theatres to increase. Earlier this month Millennial Esports officially opened its dedicated esports arena in Vegas.
