Capcom should stop nerfing Street Fighter V characters, says pro player NuckleDu

Capcom Cup 2016 winner Du “NuckleDu” Dang has shared opinion about Capcom’s approach to nerfing characters in Street Fighter V.

In a recent interview with Yahoo Esports (embedded above), NuckleDu said that he thought making characters weaker was not ideal, and that Capcom should instead buff characters to put the entire cast on a stronger playing field.

“It’s unfortunate that you spend a whole year studying a character, learning them, learning all their match-ups,” NuckleDu said. “Then because of certain people that complain about that character, Capcom decides to do something about it and nerf them. And then all that person’s work, he has nothing to show for it. That’s really disheartening and that makes you not want to play the game.

“I feel like Capcom, instead of just making weaker characters, they should make everyone just as strong so that they can compete with each other. Therefore if there’s someone super strong, there will always be another character that can contest. Because if you make someone weaker, it’s not doing anyone good, honestly. That’s just my piece.”

NuckleDu also shared his thoughts on how he wants to see the game evolve; specifically, that it should be more technical.

“Right now, it’s pretty barebones. Kolin’s mixing everything up, but if they can make the game more technical, more chess-like. Right now it’s like, if you get hit once, you die. If you make it to where if you get hit once and you start over in neutral, that’s a lot better,” he said.

In related news, NuckleDu’s defense on Guile was the subject of our recent interview with Victor ‘Punk’ Woodley and Chris ‘ChrisG’ Gonzalez. Capcom has also recently finished development on Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers for the Nintendo Switch.
