Ohio State lurking just outside Kirk Herbstreit’s top 4

Ohio State finds itself in the same spot it was in last week when Kirk Herbstreit listed his top 4 teams and the next 2 in. Herbie has the Buckeyes sitting at No. 5 on the outside looking in — at least according to his opinion.

After a bye week, it’s not a bad place for OSU to be placed. However, at this point, Ohio State no longer controls its own destiny thanks to Iowa falling flat on its face this past Saturday. Had Iowa won out and the Bucks beat an undefeated Big Ten West opponent, it would’ve been hard for me to imagine leaving out the Big Ten champ.

But with Alabama always getting the benefit of the doubt, you know, losing to an unranked team and only falling four spots, while OSU lost to a top 15 team and fell out of the top 10, things are in flux. The Crimson Tide now controls its own destiny. If ‘Bama wins out, the SEC is most likely getting two teams in the CFP, unless Georgia falters somewhere along the way.

Either way, the Buckeyes have to continue winning and doing so in impressive fashion. There’s a lot of football left to be played and it’s already been a wild season.

Ohio State travels to Bloomington to take on Indiana Saturday, and the Hoosiers will have revenge on the mind after playing the Buckeyes close last year.
