Overwatch Anniversary event dates revealed, free weekend May 26-29

Blizzard has revealed the dates for its upcoming Overwatch Anniversary event in a new video. The Year in Review trailer looks back on the last 12 months that have followed from the launch of Overwatch, and confirms the anniversary event dates will be May 23 – June 12.

The video does not reveal any details about what the event itself will entail.

In addition to Overwatch Anniversary, Blizzard also confirmed another free-weekend for Overwatch, taking place May 26-29. During this period new players can try out Overwatch’s full roster of heroes, maps, and Quick Play, Custom Games, and Weekly Brawl modes. Players will be able to level up and earn Loot Boxes, and will keep any progress made during that time if they decide to purchase a copy of Overwatch after the free weekend.

Finally, Blizzard announced a digital version of Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. This version of the game will include digital rewards for various Blizzard games, including the following:

  • Overwatch – 10 Loot Boxes

  • Overwatch – Skins for Reaper, Soldier: 76, Pharah, Bastion, and Tracer

  • Heroes of the Storm – Tracer hero

  • World of Warcraft – Baby Winston Pet

  • Diablo III – Mercy’s Wings

  • StarCraft II – In-game portraits

  • Hearthstone card back

Overwatch was first released on May 24, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game’s current competitive season will be ending soon.
