Think you can take on the Gods of Super Smash Bros. Melee? Red Bull is going to let you test that theory at Smash Gods and Gatekeepers, a newly announced amateur vs. pros tournament to take place in Los Angeles from September 2-3.

The format works like this: Amateur players will play in a double elimination tournament to decide a top 32. From there, the eight pro player captains will select two players each to fill out four-player crews, which will compete in a tournament to determine the champion. All matches will be best-of-five. If they go to all five games, the last showdown will be a doubles round. Read up on the format over at the Gods and Gatekeepers site.

The fourth slot in every crew will be filled by a “disciple,” who will be preselected before the tournament by team captains.

The 16 players not selected by captains will play in their own standalone single elimination tournament.

The captains attending the event are Joseph “Mango” Marquez, Justin “Plup” McGrath, Zac “SFAT” Cordoni, Daniel “ChuDat” Rodriguez, Justin “Wizzrobe” Hallett, Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson, Jason “Mew2king” Zimmerman, and William “Leffen” Hjelte.
