Royals OF Soler (foot) to miss at least six weeks

Kansas City Royals outfielder Jorge Soler will be sidelined at least six weeks due to a broken left foot he suffered in Friday's loss to the Houston Astros.

Soler underwent a CT scan on Saturday, and doctors decided against surgery for now. The 26-year-old will be re-evaluated in 10 days to determine the type of treatment required.

Soler fractured the first metatarsal on his foot, near the big toe, when he stumbled out of the batter's box after hitting a ground ball during Friday's game. Soler fell to the ground in pain and later limped to the dugout.

"It's very tough. He was very disappointed, very upset last night," Royals manager Ned Yost told reporters prior to Saturday's game. "He knew something was wrong. He was putting together a really, really good, solid year where he's getting a chance to play every day and was doing some nice things."

Soler, who was batting .265 with nine homers and 28 RBIs, is expected to be placed on the disabled list prior to Sunday's game against the Astros.

Meanwhile, outfielder Jorge Bonifacio is close to completing an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance and could be ready by the start of July.

First baseman Lucas Duda (foot) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.
