Sixers coach Doc Rivers discusses James Harden, Daryl Morey, trades

The Philadelphia 76ers have had a wild week as they have been working through playing so shorthanded due to the health and safety protocols as well as injuries and a game being postponed. On top of that, they nearly had a deal for superstar James Harden before he was sent to the Brooklyn Nets.

In the end, the asking price from the Houston Rockets was just a bit too steep as they were asking for Ben Simmons as well as Tyrese Maxey, Matisse Thybulle, and a haul of draft picks. It was a move that Philadelphia did not feel comfortable doing.

Coach Doc Rivers joined The Rich Eisen Podcast and he discussed his relationship with team president Daryl Morey as well as the Harden deal.

Rivers on his relationship with Morey:

What we do well is we listen to each other. Daryl has had several trades so far that I said ‘No, I don’t want to do that’ and he moves on. That’s the type of relationship you have to have when you have coach and management. I think it works that way.

Eisen then asked Rivers if one of those deals was for Harden and he answered:

That was obviously a big thing, obviously, and as I said after that, I’m glad, where we’re at right now. Sometimes the best trades you do is the ones you don’t do and I’m hoping that’s the case.

The Sixers will continue to move forward led by Simmons and Joel Embiid and hope that Rivers can be the one who can get all of their potential out of them. They are a very talented duo who just needs somebody to help them get over the hump in the Eastern Conference.
