Stadiums light up to join Joe Biden, Kamala Harris in honoring those who died from COVID-19
Landmarks, skyscrapers and stadiums across the United States all lit up on Tuesday night.
The event, led by President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in Washington D.C., was meant to honor the more than 400,000 people who have died in the country due to COVID-19.
Biden and Harris met at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and turned on 400 lights, each one representing 1,000 Americans who have died since the pandemic began.

“To heal we must remember,” Biden said, via The New York Times. “It’s hard sometimes to remember. But that’s how we heal. It’s important to do that as a nation. That’s why we’re here today. Between sundown and dusk, let us shine the lights in the darkness along the sacred pool of reflection and remember all whom we lost.”
Countless stadiums in all corners of the country followed suit — which created a pretty remarkable sight.

As of Tuesday night, more than 401,000 people have died due to the coronavirus in the United States, according to The New York Times. The country is averaging more than 3,200 deaths a day and more than 207,000 new cases as several states are setting record numbers.
