Esports organization Team Liquid has entered the competitive FIFA scene, announcing that it has signed player Lasse “Kongen” Bækkelund today. With the signing, Team Liquid expands its reach to 11 different games.

Kongen is a Danish player and will be the only seeded player in Group A of the FIFA Interactive World Cup European Regional Finals on PS4. He will be playing to qualify for one of 32 spots at The Grand Final of the FIWC, scheduled to be hosted in London this August.

The FIWC European Regional Finals will take place on June 9.

“Lasse is a fantastic talent, with incredible work ethic and I’m looking forward to him competing as a Team Liquid player at FIWC,” said Team Liquid co-CEO Victor Goossens. “The competitive FIFA landscape, until now, has been dominated by players backed by traditional soccer teams. We’re one of the first global esports franchises to enter this arena. I’m excited by the opportunity FIFA and the FIWC presents to engage both traditional soccer and esport communities and can’t wait to see Team Liquid make its mark in the space”.

Kongen will be based out of Denmark, where he will work with managers, coaches, and analysts from Team Liquid’s headquarters in the United States and The Netherlands.

Team Liquid isn’t the only big esports organization making moves in the FIFA space. In February this year Fnatic announced a partnership with soccer club AS Roma for its FIFA team and revealed a new roster.
