Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed they will compete in the International Champions Cup in the United States again this summer and sources in Spain claim that Spurs will face Barcelona during the pre-season event.

As part of the American leg of the International Champions Cup, it has been reported that Barcelona will play against Tottenham on July 28 in Los Angeles.

Tottenham are yet to reveal their pre-season fixtures, with the International Champions Cup draw to be made public next week, but Spanish media believe Barca, Tottenham, AC Milan and Roma will all be grouped together.

Although a match between Tottenham and Barca would no doubt attract big interest, it may well be that both sides would be missing a host of star players if the projected July 28 date proves to be correct.

A number of Spurs and Barca players will be in Russia for the World Cup, which finishes on July 15.

Although there is a chance the English players, such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose could be back early, Tottenham’s Belgians and Barcelona’s Spanish, Argentine and Uruguayan internationals will expect to progress to the final stages.

With Tottenham’s new stadium also designed to host NFL games, the American market is hugely important for the club, and chairman Daniel Levy said: “This summer’s tour will be the sixth time in nine years that we have toured the US and we are all excited to be returning again later this year.

“Our following in North America has grown considerably during this time with the number of official supporters’ clubs alone more than quadrupling.

“We are grateful to have such strong support in the US and we are fully aware of the sacrifices they make to watch us play at any hour of the day. We look forward to showing them our appreciation when we visit this summer.

“The 2018-19 season is set to be an historic one for our club with the opening of our new world-class stadium and this tour will provide the ideal preparation for Mauricio (Pochettino) and the team.”
