After a surprisingly close series that went to all five games, North American fans can now breathe a sigh of relief. Team SoloMid has qualified for the next stage of the 2017 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational.

The series looked grim for TSM in the first two games, where they were caught off-guard by the Marines’ skirmish-heavy style. In Game 1, a costly Level 1 invade put Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen behind early, and Marines’ star jungler Đỗ “Levi” Duy Khánh’s Kha’Zix took over the game from there. Game 2 followed a similar blueprint, with the Marines accruing early advantages and snowballing them to victory.

Game 3 told a different story. With Ziggs banned and Gragas picked away by TSM, the Marines were dismantled early and TSM never looked back. Marines had Game 4 all but won before they chose to chase TSM for kills rather than backing off and taking Baron for a final push. Game 5 was close early, but TSM eventually closed it, and the series, out.

With this victory, TSM qualify for the 2017 MSI main event. China’s Team WE, Europe’s G2 Esports, and Korea’s SK Telecom T1 have already been seeded into the 2017 MSI main event. Turkish representative SuperMassive eSports will face Taiwan’s Flash Wolves tomorrow. The winner will go on to the main event and the loser will play the Marines for the final MSI spot.
