Streaming platform Twitch has announced the launch of Communities, a feature that allows users to create group spaces according to their specific interests.

In practice, Communities will look similar to the existing game directories. Streams must be a part of the Community’s specific theme. The feature will be available today.

Users can make or discover new Communities via the directory. The tools allow users to customize a landing page, appoint moderators, establish rules, and feature select broadcasts. All Communities are public and have a designated Community Leader, who can ban or timeout channels at their discretion.

To create a Community, the user’s account needs to be at least 90 days old, be in good standing (not banned), and have two-factor authentication enabled.

There are already several Communities available based on the most popular games and streaming activities on Twitch Creative, including cosplay, drawing, painting, comedy, food, and music.

Last month Twitch revealed the details for its third annual TwitchCon event. TwitchCon moves to Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center for its 2017 run, and will be open from October 20-22. Those who are interested in attending can already book accommodation near the location at a reduced rate via the TwitchCon website.
