There are so many ways a UFC fight can end, like punches, kicks, elbows, knees, submissions and decisions, but rare is the day you see a bout end with a full-on, wrestling-style body slam.

UFC Vegas 16 supplied such an ending on Saturday, and the scene was even more wild than you’d expect. As well as frightening.

Jordan Leavitt lands body slam at UFC Vegas 16

A lightweight fight between Matt Wiman and Jordan Leavitt ended after less than 30 seconds in the first round. The ending began in odd fashion, with Leavitt grabbing Wiman around the torso and lifting him into the air.

Leavitt carried his opponent around the Octagon for nearly 10 seconds. When it became clear Wiman wasn’t letting go, Leavitt jolted him up, placed his forearm near his neck and slammed down like he was at WrestleMania.

The blow left Wiman out cold on the mat, Leavitt the emphatic victor in his UFC debut and previously bemused broadcaster Jon Anik going wild on the microphone.

Leavitt celebrated his win with some splits, but concerns soon grew as Wiman was attended to. The 37-year-old remained out cold for a while, before eventually getting up and leaving under his own power. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani later confirmed that Leavitt’s hit was not illegal, but nevertheless one of the scarier knockouts in UFC history.

The win improves Leavitt’s professional MMA record to 8-0, and gives him a heck of a way to begin his UFC career.
