Veteran RB Peterson says Texans 'a perfect landing spot'

After bouncing around three different teams in little more than a year, veteran running back Adrian Peterson appears ready to settle down at home.

But he isn't talking retirement.

The NFL's No. 12 all-time rusher told ESPN's "First Take" on Friday that the Houston Texans would be a "perfect landing spot" following his release earlier this week by the Arizona Cardinals.

"It has always been my dream to come back home and play," Peterson said. "Taken that I've been living in Houston for over a decade. That would be a perfect landing spot, here in my backyard. That would be very convenient."

Peterson was born in Palestine, Texas, about a 3-hour drive from Houston.

Peterson added that, despite the fact he turns 33 in less than a week, he isn't looking at Houston as a spot to simply wind down his career as he prepares for retirement. Rather, he said, he feels he has "at least three to four" years left and that, "as far as my body and how I feel physically, I feel great."

After Minnesota did not pick up his contract option following the 2016 season, Peterson signed a two-year, $7 million contract with New Orleans. But after failing to find a role in the Saints offense -- and getting no more than nine carries in a game -- Peterson was traded to Arizona after only four games last season.

He played six games in Arizona before a neck injury suffered in late November ended his season.

Peterson has 12,276 rushing yards and 99 rushing touchdowns in 11 seasons, the first 10 with the Vikings. He has led the NFL in rushing three times, the most recent coming in 2015, his age 30 season.
