Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a home run to the moon off another famous son

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. comes from baseball royalty. His father is, of course, Vladimir Guerrero, who is headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame this summer. But the 19-year-old is already making a name for himself. He’s a third base prospect for the Toronto Blue Jays, and is currently playing for the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

While having a famous baseball name might help with recognition, the name didn’t help him hit this absolutely enormous home run against the Trenton Thunder on Monday night. He did that all by himself.

I mean, holy crap. That’s just insane. It almost looks like that ball left the stadium. If it did, it didn’t stop and it definitely went right to the moon. Actually, I take that back. It was hit so hard that it picked up speed as it left the atmosphere and is now a flaming space fireball that is threatening to obliterate planets and stars in faraway galaxies. That flaming home run fireball is bending space and time and will be seen blowing up a planet in the next “Star Trek” movie.

Vlad Jr. didn’t hit that home run off of just any minor league pitcher, though. He hit that homer off of Jose Mesa’s son, Jose Mesa Jr. Jose Jr. is a pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.

Vlad Jr. had a lot better luck against Jose Jr. in that one at-bat than his father had against Jose Sr. over his entire career. The elder Vlad Guerrero faced the elder Jose Mesa 12 times in the majors, and the numbers aren’t pretty: .182/.250/.182 with two hits, one walk, two strikeouts and no home runs.

The son of Vlad Guerrero hitting a home run off of the son of Jose Mesa is awesome, but the Fisher Cats roster was made for those kind of moments. There are two other baseball sons playing for the Fisher Cats right now: Bo Bichette, the son of Dante Bichette, and Cavan Biggio, the son of Craig Biggio. That could make you feel old, but it’s also really cool that the sons of three different major leaguers could end up playing for the same MLB team. But if it does make you think about your mortality and the never ending march to death, just watch that Vlad Jr. home run again. That’ll cure what ails you.
