Tekken 7’s Eddy Gordo makes a return in all his capoeira glory

Bandai Namco has announced the return of Eddy Gordo for its upcoming fighting game, Tekken 7.

The fighter is shown using his familiar capoeira style with some of his classic moves returning, such as the low-hitting kicks that were the bane of many Tekken players learning the game. He also has an interesting move that appears to enable him to block mid-combo with his back turned (0:40 mark in the trailer). However, it remains to be seen if the dreaded CH B+1, 4 returns in all its damaging glory for Tekken 7.

Story-wise, Eddy is brought into Tekken 7 to exact revenge on the Mishima Zaibatsu led by Kazuya Mishima. He is the only capoeira fighter to be announced so far, with no sign of Christie Monteiro yet.

Eddy Gordo was first introduced to the series in Tekken 3. He is perhaps best remembered for his cheesy strings brought out by mashing the two kick buttons, which can be easily countered by experienced players. He was replaced by Christie Monteiro in Tekken 4, who is the granddaughter of his master. The two characters were both playable in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Tekken 6.

Tekken 7 is set for release on June 2 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
