Dota 2 Kiev Major 2017 invited teams revealed

The eight teams to receive direct invitations to the Dota 2 Kiev Major 2017 have been announced. As revealed via the Winter 2017 Battle Pass Compendium, the following teams will be competing at the Kiev Major 2017:

  • Wings Gaming

  • OG

  • Ad Finem

  • Team Liquid

  • Evil Geniuses

  • Digital Chaos

  • Newbee

  • VG.J

Overall, the list is pretty unsurprising, although some fans have reacted negatively to the inclusion of Ad Finem. The team did place second at the Boston Major but have had a string of disappointing results since then. There’s also been some criticism on the inclusion of three teams from China, as China already has two slots in the Regional Qualifiers–meaning five of the sixteen teams at the Kiev Major will be from China.

In addition to the direct invites, the invitations to the qualifiers have also been revealed and are as follows:

The Kiev Major will take place on April 27-30 at the National Palace of Arts Ukraine, with a prize pool of $3 million. The winning team will score $1 million in prize money. The event will be the second major tournament in the 2016-2017 competitive Dota 2 season, following the Boston Major 2016.
