Faker officially streaming on Twitch, breaks record for highest concurrent viewers on individual stream

Famed League of Legends player Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok has joined Twitch, and his channel has already hit a new milestone for the streaming platform.

According to an announcement from Twitch, Faker’s first ever Twitch broadcast broke the record for the highest number of concurrent viewers for an individual streamer.

His stream hit 245,100 concurrent viewers on February 6, garnered over 200k followers, and hit 1.4 million channel views despite only being active for a day. The first portion of the stream featured an English translator for the South Korean native.

Faker joins his SK Telecom T1 teammates Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, Bae “Bang” Jun-sik, and Lee “Wolf” Jae-wan in their transition to Twitch. The team previously streamed on Azubu, who recently acquired Hitbox.

Earlier this year a report surfaced detailing Azubu’s financial woes and troubled history. The company allegedly lost the rights to stream League of Legends on its platform, which reportedly cost $3 million in 2016.

Yahoo Esports has reached out to Twitch for details of SKT’s new streaming relationship.

Faker’s new record comes just a week after the ELeague Major broke the record for the highest number of concurrent viewers on a single stream, with over 1 million people tuning in to watch the tournament’s grand final.
