(FC Anji)Russian soccer club FC Anzhi Makhachkala (Anji) has announced its signing of renown Dota 2 player Alexander “XBOCT” Dashkevich. According to an article posted on FC Anji’s official website (via Dot Esports), the soccer club is looking to form a team.

XBOCT is the first player the club has signed on, and no further details on the remaining four members of the roster have been shared yet. XBOCT was most recently a part of Team Spirit but left the organization in August 2016. He is perhaps best known for his time as part of NaVi’s Dota 2 squad, playing with the team from 2010 until 2015.

His time with NaVi has led to him being called one of the most accomplished Dota players ever, with over $600k in prize winnings, according to Esports Earnings. XBOCT has also ventured into the analyst role, serving as an analyst (Russian) at The Frankfurt Major. He will be competing in the upcoming Kiev Major Open Qualifiers for the CIS region.

This is the first time FC Anji has made a move into esports. The organization joins other soccer clubs who have invested into competitive gaming recently, including AS Roma, F.C. Copenhagen, and Paris Saint-Germain Football Club.
